제목: Physicalizing Virtual and Augmented Reality

Advanced computing technologies enabled compelling virtual and augmented reality experiences. They use high-definition visual and auditory rendering for the virtual world, and the reliable sensing of the physical environment allows blending of the virtual and physical reality. However, the lack of rendering physicality of the virtual world limits the immersiveness of the virtual environment and the applicability of the augmented reality systems. In this talk, I will introduce a line of work that aims to make computers simulate physical matter so that people can feel the force and movement of virtual objects and get the direct help of computers in getting their daily activities done.
Bio: Seongkook Heo is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Virginia. He has been working on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) research, focusing on developing new sensing and haptic feedback techniques to make computers better support the rich and nuanced human interactions. His research has been published at top HCI venues, including CHI, UIST, and CSCW. He is also the recipient of the Research Innovation Award at the University of Virginia and the Facebook Research Award.
